Is Social Media really recession-proof?

A co-worker at our ad agency send me an article from the Wall Street Journal the other day that mentioned that many firms will start cutting back on social media-related expenses in the face of the economic slowdown. A clip from the article follows (or read the full piece ($)): __________________________________________________________ "Financial woes likely will derail the growth of a slew of advertising technologies that… Continue

Vacationing in Indiana?

Clifty Falls State Park - Click for more photos

We're all Hooisers here, or at the very least, we have a connection with Indiana. But, while many of us live in Indiana, how many of us actually vacation in Indiana as well? Maybe a better question is how many of us explore Indiana? With my jo… Continue

Social Media for your Business

Social Media is becoming a more important part of doing business each day. From blogs to Flickr, from Twitter to SmallerIndiana; Social Media is changing the way that we interact with one another as well as the way companies and consumers interact with one another. There are some companies who are doing a great job of integrating social media initiatives into their websites and others that haven't begun yet. Do you hav… Continue

The price of Oil...

There was a pretty intense debate several weeks ago about the price of oil and its relationship to the price of a gallon of gas. I mentioned that the value of the Dollar played a significant role in the price of a Barrel of oil and this chart shows exactly that. (Thanks to Andy Horning for posting this chart on his blog) This… Continue

Is America ready for a third party?

Are we at the point where a third political party has viability? Ross Perot ran as an independent in '92 (when he garnered nearly 19% of the popular vote!) and started and ran under the Reform Party banner in '96. Ralph Nader has run as a third party candidate in every election since '92 under the Green Party banner and the Libertarians ran Ron Paul in '88 and have had others run in each election cycle since.

I just got twittered by Dr. Woody Meyers

I woke up this morning to find an email in my inbox from Twitter. For those of you who don't know, Twitter is essentially a "microblog" whose purpose is to answer the question "What are you doing?" For those without the time to sit down and write a long blog post, you can simply Twitter (ex. "I'm blogging about how twitter can be used to reach out to people during an election cycle"). You post your twitter and it will show up on the pages of people who follo… Continue

Property Taxes

I'm sure that property taxes haven't been at the top of anyone's mind lately, but the revised assessments for Marion County were finally released today. My property taxes were set to go up by about 66% back in the fall before the Governor ordered the re-assessment. I just got the amazingly frustrating news that my house assessed for just $200 less than the "bad" assessments that were thrown… Continue

Smaller Indiana gaining traction...

I joined Smaller Indiana a few weeks ago after reading about it in the Indy Star (yes, I'm one of those strange under-35s who actually reads the physical paper each day) and I've been nothing but impressed since I joined. I've been a member of LinkedIn for nearly two years now and, although it's a great way to keep track of business acquaintances, you simply can't do anything on LinkedIn. You can collect your friends and make connections, but there's no real interaction. LinkedIn has been worki… Continue
