Are You Networking 2.0 Friendly?

So much buzz today about Web 2.0, why not Networking 2.0? Move up, networkers! Be better. Network better. Networking 2.0 is about relationships… all about relationships, in fact. Genuine, slow-going, virtuous relationships. Much education and training has been spent on networkers. Hear me now: Don’t be a ‘card-slinger’. Exchanging business cards is healthy, continue... My Voting Line...

I vote at the St. Lutheran Church on Southeastern near 465/74. Things were usually quite, like a library... not much chatter at all... people were friendly, just not too talkative. Of course right outside the door was a couple cheering on Mr. Barnes... and they pointed out that his daughter was sitting there, I was wondering why she wasn't in school today... but not my business, I guess. I arrived at 6:35AM, and left at 7:35 AM, so the entire process was 60-minutes. I found it interesting that… Continue

Economy Sting

So the reality is no one wants to talk about the sting the economy is taking on their businesses. I am happy for those of you that are finding your business is on track even bringing in higher revenues than projected. That's clearly not the norm right now. Given all the recent failures and bailouts lets be serious and remove the blinders. Telling yourself you've recession-proofed your business may be denial. I just returned from a two-trip trade show that started in Vegas and ended in Lexington… Continue

Roast, Humor, Burnt Almonds, Edgy: All under one B&B roof!

Really, I wasn’t sure what to expect at the Beef & Boards (B&B) showing of “The Producers!” I am a fan of the theatre, even so much so that I find myself there every 4-6 weeks as a VIP member taking in every show that plays. With the VIP pass we get ½ off throughout the year… Continue

Gaining Exposure, Reeping Rewards

The phone rang on Monday going to voicemail and Laurel was on the line from Grapevine Cottage in Zionsville. She wanted to let me know someone dropped off some of my Secondi-Gourmet sauce for them to try. They loved it! I was to wait and connect with them on Thursday when She returned to the office. I called her today and received my first order for 4 cases going into a gourmet grocery. Indianapolis will soon be able to buy Secondi-Gourmet right off t… Continue

How is the economy changing your business strategies?

We see many of our client projects scaling back, likely due to the economic condition of the US. Rather than hanging our head, we're busy entertaining new solutions which will attract new clients. Case & Point... as the exclusive host of the Confluence Networking event we designed a registration system that tracked attendees, seats available for a series of workshops, maintained a database, allowed back-end access to multiple users, allowed manipulation of data for workshop changes, etc. A… Continue

eMarketer Prediction for Social Networkadvertising

WoW! Say what you will about the future of social networking, whether it’s reached its peak or it’s just finding it’s groove, but eMarketer predicts that by 2011, $4.1 billion will be spent worldwide for social networkadvertising – a dramatic increase from the $480 million spent in 2006. Taken from: cmswire Continue

Has Google Adwords Lost its Glitz?

This week alone I've had 2 clients suggest to me that Google Adwords is just not what it used to be. Complaints are riddled with declarations of crowded markets, and keyword bidding that mirrors gas - continually rising. What do you think? Do you use Adwords to market… Continue

Downconvert HDCAM Master to DBeta

FP has a few out-of-state resources for down-converting masters from HD-Cam or HD-Cam SR into a D-Beta format for on-demand duplication via DVD-r. I am wondering if you know of an Indianapolis-based company that handles this down-conversion? Continue

Door Prize Querry

I'm curious to hear what a premium door prize might be for attending a networking event. I see iPods, iPhones, USBs, and things like that when I'm traveling... is that what folks are most drawn to... techno-gadget door prizes? What about a good business book? What's something over-the-top that would grab your attention? Continue

Promising Direct Response Site

Indianapolis doesn't have a large Direct Response (DR) industry such as you would find in either California or New York City. However, giving myself to avid networking in Indy I have come across a handful of players. If there are more DR savvy folks out there, please leave me a comment, I want to know you! A beta site just popped up this week called: Directing Response. I have been contemplating starting my own DR site for our industry because we t… Continue

Keynote: Benjamin Zander

It's 6 till 9PM PST, and I'm taking a moment out of a very busy day in San Diego to write my SI buddies, I must be totally crazy! ;-) Last night I was enamered by the Conductor of the Botston Philharmonic Orchestra, Benjamin Zander. Who would have known that this phenominal musician and concuctor was a mezmerizing public speaker. He has a new book out called "The Art of Possibility." And, no surprise that was the topic matter for his presentation to 200 Direct Response Professionals gathered in… Continue

Non-Traditional Networking Methods

I'm curious what you're doing to grow your business in any non-traditional methods. Smaller Indiana is obviously a leading way to network online with other (mostly Indianapolis) business professionals. Rainmakers is a killer way to network f2f with Indy (and surrounding) based networkers. The buzz is to jump into social networking via LinkedIn, FaceBook, MySpace - and the list goes on (forever)! For many of us, mainline networking means IndyChamber events, I'm sure. But, what little-known netw… Continue

Metrics to Measure Successful Tradeshows

As a VP of Marketing & Sales (actively engaged in heavy business travel) for a leading fulfillment company in the Direct Response industry (based in Indy) I find myself pondering the metrics by which I should evaluate the success of a tradeshow. Obviously, the ROI in terms of dollars is a critical factor. Our former partner/owner gauged success exclusively by the ROI; setting a goal of 15x the cost to exhibit. Some of our tradeshows rack up a $10,000 expense. Doing the math we'd need to tie… Continue

Who birthed Rainmakers?

Greetings from Miami Smoosiers! Can't say "Wish I was there." as I hear you're getting sleet and snow while I'm in 79 degree weather. I'll be back tomorrow! Anyway, I'm here for a tradeshow, and on our banners for the booth I put the Rainmakers logo to let people know we're… Continue
