Doing Business with Horizon Property Group

the-bean-cupThe Bean Cup is a special place. Despite a terribly maintained strip mall that's both empty and not visible from the road, Chris Carr was able to build a profitable business that employed 7 and improved the neighborhood. It's always been noted as one of the best coffee sho… Continue

If you haven't seen it already, Paula Henry who runs one of the most popular real estate blogs in Indy got the spotlight on Forbes! Paula made the news when she argued with MIBOR on whether or not Real Estate Agents could each others' listings and get them indexed by Search Engines.
The online storm pushed the issue onto the agenda of the National Association of Realtors, the professional organization for real estate age

Why I watch Fox News (and don't apologize for it)

So the Whitehouse wants to battle Fox News (again).
"...we should be clear that the institutions of democracy – free markets, a free press, a strong civil society – cannot be built overnight, and they cannot be built at the end of a barrel of a gun." Barack Obama
I'm not a Republican. I'm even liberal in some of my views of how government can help people. When… Continue

An Open Letter to Indiana about Life Sciences

There's no doubt how important Roche and Eli Lilly are to our economy here in central Indiana. As well, I'm forever appreciative of the work these folks do and the impact it will have on the human race. I have friends at both companies and have helped them with their technology and social media strategies. I'm looking forward to seeing how technology will transform their industries. That said, my next remarks are not meant to anger the industry... rather to promote a different one. Indiana - pl… Continue

World Cup Soccer in Indianapolis?

Received this important notice from the Indiana Sports Corporation today! Indianapolis was recently selected as one of 27 U.S. cities still being considered as a host city for the 2018 or 2022 FIFA World Cup. The host city selection process will continue over the next few months. It's time for Indiana and Indianapolis to prove how passionate we are about hosting this great event. We're challenging you to help us make Indiana the most-represented state for the USA Bid Committee's online petition… Continue

Stompin' Grapes for Freedom

Saw this note on the Electronic Frontier Foundation website and thought it was cool since it was in our own backyard! "During our 38th Swiss Wine Festival (one of Indiana's Top 10 Festivals) held this August 27-30, we will be debuting a new event. Our First Annual "Media Celebrity Grape Stomp for Charity" will feature on-air celebrities from television and radio, newspaper columnists, professional bl… Continue

My Healthcare Rant (a different perspective than Mike's)

I wanted to write a different perspective than Mike's Rant on Healthcare. Healthcare is broke. You know it. I know it. People talk about the expense involved in universal health care and paying Americans having to foot the bills for non-paying Americans. Guess what? You already pay. If I don't have insurance and I get in a car wreck, I still get services and you still pay for it. There areContinue

Who is Smaller Indiana?

I rec'd an email the morning of Bigger Ideas from Mike Karnuta from the Indiana Sports Corporation and it inspired me to write and tell this to the crowd at Bigger Ideas. We are the misfits. We are the rebels. We are the troublemakers. We are the round pegs in the square holes. We are the ones who see things differently. We're not fond of rules. And we have no respect for the status quo. You can quote us. Disagree with us. Glorify, or vilify us. A… Continue

Is Central Indiana the Online Marketing Capital of the World?

This week I wrote a post that I'd really appreciate your input on. I came up with 50 different companies here in central Indiana that provided online marketing products or services. The list may surprise you - some of these companies are small, some large - but the value they bring as well as the growth they are incurring is much better than the average business (especially in this economic environment). Please visit the post on my blog and write about your great experiences with these companie… Continue

Indianapolis tops list for best cities for new graduates to live and work!

Thanks to Dr. Thomas Ho for sending me this fantastic news: Great to see Indianapolis topping the list of cities for new graduates to live and work! From the article: The list is based on the ranking of the top U.S. cities with the highest concentration of young adults (age 20 - 24) from the U.S. Census Bureau (2006), inventory of jobs requiring less than one year of experienceContinue

IBJ: Indianapolis tech firms’ national stars rising

I'm not trying to promote my own company here - but the promotion of ANY Indianapolis business on a national level should be cause for celebration. Tougher Questions on Ms. America!

The Press in the United States let us down during the last administration by not asking the tough questions and relentlessly digging in on what matters to the American people. The press has continued this 'enchantment' with Barack Obama. That Obama is hand-picking reporters to ask questions, and most of the questions are softballs is a disservice of the Fourth Estate. We need tough, seasoned and relentless journalists more than ever in this country. Stimulus (like it or not) is going to bring… Continue

The Swoosh Will Return!

Just a note to everyone to let you know that I had to make modifications to the design of Smaller Indiana last night. Our platform rolled out some new elements that weren't styled well and when I attempted to make some edits, it rolled out an entirely new style sheet that pretty much broke our old one. Rather than troubleshoot the new styling all night, I opted to take a theme that was designed for the new elements and roll that out instead. There are some things I like about the new layout -… Continue

My Buried Head Gathered No Headache

The television is usually on a news channel and is background noise rather than the center of attention. My kids and I are usually found on the laptop or they're doing their homework. Some friends of mine really pushed me recently to check out Battlestar Galactica. I was hooked after the opening movie… Continue

IU Student Hits the Market with a Punch!

I love reading stories about Indiana students in national publications - this story is fantastic in Inc. Since Workman launched Punch last year, three Anheuser-Busch distributors have picked up the product; they sell it in most of Indiana and Illinois. To get the word out, ZW Enterprises is co-sponsoriContinue

I Saw You Indianapolis Policeman: License 8805

For the last six weeks I've been taking the bus to work. It's been challenging at times. I've lost a lot of time, but gained a lot of appreciation for folks who depend on public transit. You should try it. Anyways, on Monday I was walking from the NE corner of Pennsylvania and Ohio towards the Circle. As I was crossing Pennsylvania, I saw a police car double-parked, without his lights on, letting out a passenger. I'm not sure, but it looks as though he may have been dropping off his wife. It w… Continue

America DOES Need a Bailout

I know it's a little bit late. The money is already flowing and the fat cats will stay in limousines and mansions for another few years. I"m not that upset about it, it's something that I can not control; therefore, there's no use in letting my blood boil. That said, what if citizens rose up against the bailout and we encouraged our political leaders to make some additional promises: 1. For every dollar given to the banking industry, a matching dollar was given to grants for students with good… Continue
