Making people and ideas findable

Not sure this is SI-blog-worthy, but it's a great deal that I want to share with y'all...

Over on LifeHacker.com, they've pointed out an AMAZING opportunity that's only good now through Halloween.

Restaurant.com always offers gift certificates at a great rate (like a $25 gift certificate for $10), and they have a bunch of Indy restaurants in their stable -- L'explorateur, Adobo Grill, Agio, The Melting Pot, Cafe Nora, Fionn MacCool's, and Squealers on 86th...

So, great deals at great restaurants, right? BUT!

Between now and 10/31, with the discount code TREATS, they're offering an ADDITIONAL 80% off. So, you can get a $25 gift certificate for $2.

THAT IS TWO DOLLARS FOR A TWENTY-FIVE-DOLLAR GIFT CERTIFICATE!

There are some limitations -- minimum food purchases, etc., but this is awesome!! Where are you going to eat?

Looks like "Buyer Beware" is the watchword, but I'm surprised to read these comments -- guess it goes to show you still don't get something for nothing -- although I will say I had a pretty clear "No Thanks" opportunity to continue with my Restaurant.com order ($50 worth of gift certificates, with restrictions I can live with, for $4) without signing up for the $14.95/month Shopping Essentials service.

I wrote about this several months ago. We were subscribed to the Shopping Essentials scam club for $14.95 per month because we purchased Restaurant.com coupons. So check your credit card statement and look for Shopping Essentials. You'll need to cancel that account, and you may need to change your credit card account. That's what we had to do.

You're right. This can be a great deal, but buyer beware! My intention is not to rain on your parade, but merely give you a heads-up. Restaurant.com has been known to sell your information to third party marketers. Also, I've read and heard first hand endless complaints about their customer service. Admittingly, I've used their product before with success, but I choose not to anymore. The bad eventually outweighed the good. The adage 'If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is' tends to ring true with this huge savings platform.

The additional list of complaints included unauthorized credit card charges. That can't be fun. Like I stated before, I had some success. Just be careful.

I did this exact same thing through UPromise today! It is great!
