Smaller Indiana

Making people and ideas findable

I have always enjoyed using GoDaddy here and there because of their hosting connection and plug-ins for sites like Wordpress and other apps. It was easy for me to navigate. Recently I have run into some problems with searching for domains and a couple of days later finding them bought up from sites like About Domain and Domain by Proxy. I have also found multiple accounts where friends have searched for 10-20 domain names and then finding them all purchased by the end of the day.

I am officially done with GoDaddy and I encourage everyone who uses them to pull out of the site as well. Screw GoDaddy.

Doug Karr knows a lot of good companies. But Heid does a good job as well, AND he's a Smoosier. Doug uses non-Indiana companies (Commie!)

Talk to Heid - he's a Smoosier and hosts my site and all of Lorraine's Roundpeg sites.

Hey Erik. Thanks for the reply. Do you (or anyone else) have a good hosting company you can recommend? I'm still not sure if I want to tackle taking on hosting my own site just yet. Still need to tinker with an old computer to see if I can figure it out haha.

Chris,

Don't buy a new domain, just switch it over to another host. No point in reinventing the wheel just because GoDaddy isn't working out. You should be able to regain traction once you make the switch.

I'm done with GoDaddy as well. I bought some basic hosting from them for my blog and it has failed to show in Google search results after months. The site has pages indexed in webmaster tools but they fail to show in search results. In the end, numerous people suggested that the host may have been blocked in the past and is causing me issues. For this I say boo to GoDaddy and will be buying a new domain and hosting service and starting from scratch with another company... or maybe I will just run a web server at home.

You have to link it though... www.godaddy.com

I think you have done a good job of mentioning how bad the service is at GoDaddy.com
Theresia Whitfield Comment by Theresia Whitfield on June 17, 2008 at 1:27pm
You mean if we keep mentioning www.GoDaddy.com more and more people will find out that www.GoDaddy.com is crappy and no one would register their domains with www.GoDaddy.com?

See, how many more ways can I throw www.GoDaddy.com in this post?!
Lorraine Ball Comment by Lorraine Ball on June 17, 2008 at 1:08pm
One of the interesting things about the web, is that the more you use the name of the site: www.godaddy.com, the more likely these posts are to come up when someone searches for information about them.

So the more we discuss how www.GoDaddy.com is no longer a reliable source of domain names, the more likely it is that others will find out about it as well.

I did discover, that my client actually bought the names this time, but this has happened on other occasions.

And while i am on the subject of why I hate GoDaddy... Domains registered with them are a pain to transfer to a new host. It has been two weeks, and we can't get the site moved. Despite repeated requests.
