Another surprising night. Another amazing acknowledgement of the power of WORD OF MOUTH. I've done quite a few shows (Shakespeare in My Room in Indy, Dear John in Bloomington) where there is a wonderful production and no one in the chairs and you cancel the show and eat the money because nobody came.
This doesn't seem to be the case with ASSHOLES AND AUREOLES. We had a full house and a leap-to-the-feet standing ovation last night. Two more shows to go and Karen and Eric and I are so grateful! Eric's mom (and dad? a man!) came to the show last night. Sue Grizzell, who I haven't worked with in years, Jon Lindley, Adam Crowe, Mary McGann, Matt Rowland, Troy Trinkle...and the people I didn't see, only felt, and who helped us by laughing at "Then how are you knocking?" and one of my favorites, "Reina, if you're not out of here in like 3 seconds I'm gonna huff and puff and break yore fuckin' arms."
Mmmmmm...so delicious.
Then I flew home in my car to Bloomington in time to watch another great performance, Obama's acceptance speech.
I do love some spoken word.
So color us deeply appreciative of this opportunity to delight audiences and walk away with the take.
Thank you, Fringe.
