It's also good to see that the vast majority of Smoosiers see the great things that Mitch Daniels has accomplished for our state.Unlike some of the misleading ads you see on TV as I travel to neighboring states for my company I have realized that living and working in Indiana has become a very good thing!!! Our federal goverment could learn a lot from Mitch and company!

Stephen,
Unless I missed something along the way the President of the United States (POTUS) is in the executive branch of our goverment. Meaning this ridiculous idea of "income redistribution" also involves Congress. While I have more than my fair share of differences with the Bush Adminastration, please remember that it took a democratically controlled congress to endorse the tax cuts you believe are so wrong. And using your line of reasoning with the term "McBush" why hasn't "Commrade Pelosi" stepped up to the plate and used the constitutional power of her vote??? Because whining about it makes a much better sound bite than doing something about it. Before you cast stones at McCain you might want to examine Obama's voting record in his brief stint in Congress. This isn't campaign rhetoric, it's a matter of national record.

When Sen Lugar, (R-IN) introduced a plan that would have revamped the IRS and created a level playing field using a national sales tax. Where was the support for that if we suddenly worry about fair taxation? May I remind you that companies both large and small provide jobs pensions and benifits to the majority of Americans. If you go after a company like Exxon for example do you really believe that they are not going to pass that tax increase on at the pump? Thanks to the freedoms given us by our founding fathers if you think that a company is corrupt then you as a consumer have the right not to patronize that company. If enough Americans truly believe the same thing as you then that company will change their tune or go away.
As a former rural, gun totin' hoosier who clings to his religion I certainally hope that the majority of Hoosiers feel the same .

Andy - I know you've got to be busy with your campaign for Governor, but could we meet for coffee? I'm in complete agreement with your more politics = less liberty and voluntary vs violent comments.

However, as unfortunate as it is, there are only two parties in this country that get the attention they deserve. What you are doing is great, but I'd love to learn more from you about the effectiveness of the Independent ticket.

Stephen - by "the wealthiest of Americans" I'm assuming you mean the people that create jobs? No?
Andy Horning Comment by Andy Horning on September 18, 2008 at 11:33am
Oh, and I'd also like to understand our fascination with electoral numerology. Are elections about biomass/ mob rule, or about right versus wrong? Can somebody tell me why we care about poll numbers and "strategic voting" when it's been tearing us apart for thirty years now?
Andy Horning Comment by Andy Horning on September 18, 2008 at 11:30am
Can somebody tell me what "liberal" and "conservative" mean today? Bush has been more of whatever LBJ was, than LBJ was. Whether that's liberal or conservative, it's bad. On the other hand, JFK was the last president to actually cut spending; and his tax cut, at 2% of the GNP is still the biggest on record (and it'd have been higher if he hadn't gotten killed).
More politics = less liberty, opportunity, prosperity and security. Maybe we should start using concepts like politics versus not-politics. Or how about voluntary (free market) versus violent (government)? Or maybe free versus serf?
Stephen Jeffers Comment by Stephen Jeffers on September 18, 2008 at 11:25am
Well I said McBush in reference to the fact that he will continue on the tax cuts for the wealthiest of Americans, is that not the case?
Jim Brown Comment by Jim Brown on September 18, 2008 at 11:17am
Well - in statistics you have to take into considering the sampling and sampling method. The method used on SI would be considered a 'cluster sample.' There was nothing random about who was polled - it was taken from a group of people that a) opted in to SI, and b) opted in to the poll. With no randomness - the results will fall outside of the standard margin of error, making them invalid.

I don't believe in taxes on income. I think it stifles innovation and production. So, that fact that we are taxed at all bothers me. I'd much rather see a consumption tax or "Fair Tax" where we receive all of our income and are taxed at a much higher rate on what we spend. This would actually solve a LOT of current problems.

Calling McCain "McBush" is ignorant. To Republicans McCain is not a true conservative so, he is far from being the next Bush. Unfortunately for Obama, and his supporters, as much as they would like to think otherwise, this election is between Barack Obama and John McCain, not George Bush.
Stephen Jeffers Comment by Stephen Jeffers on September 18, 2008 at 11:02am
I'm far from a scientific pollster, but what polls do take an accurate representation or sample of the people, it is what it is, from the people polled that is the result. How can that be denied.

Also I think alot of people over look that since Obama didn't win versus Hilary in some of these states like Indiana, you think it'll just be handed over to McCain. Most of the places where Obama did not as well as Hillary are rural blue collar areas, you think those people are gonna be against tax breaks for them, instead of McBush's plan to continually provide tax breaks on the wealthiest of folks.

I don't think that the past is what regulates how we will be in the future, this is a totally different election, but the reality is that no one knows, and we will see soon.
