Smaller Indiana

Making people and ideas findable

Have you seen a blog post that looks like they took the text from their latest ad and just dumped into the blog? Or a press release? Maybe a brochure? Or even a catalog item or items? Please don’t do that!

But you want to use your blog to promote your business (honestly, that’s why most businesses do a blog, right?).

You can. Just be original. Re-write it! Make it a casual tone rather than a “push the message out” tone. Write it in first person; add some fluff or personal statements. Be friendly.

You can use the information from the “don’t” items above, but turn them into a conversation rather than a guy with a megaphone hawking his wares.

I agree - if we would look at it from a customer or consumer point of view, we would be much better off in many things. Stop selling and start building relationships. Thanks for the comment! It's not raining here in Indy yet, but it's windy and cold.

I recently read an article at remarkablogger and I think he makes a very valid point for blogging. Why not write articles from the customers perspective so that you are answering some of their questions instead of writing about your business, write about how your business can solve their problems.

Does that make sense? It's a rainy Monday morning here in Ft Wayne and I'm not all together with it yet....
