Making people and ideas findable

Well, my head is spinning. It's really not surprising, with the Dow taking 3 digit swings day after day. Nothing the congress proposes seems to be able to staunch the bleeding. Oh, yes, now we have pirates taking over oil tankers. Al Franken might actually sit in the senate! Will the madness ever end?

And I wonder if we really understand what started this whole mess. I've read all the supposed reasons that the economy is in this nosedive. I've listened to Henry Paulson, Ben Bernanke, and Barney Frank. I've read the sage wisdom from the writers at the Economist. But, for some reason, I don't believe that they even understand how we got into this economic upheaval.

I can't claim any divine understanding, or august knowledge. I didn't receive any bolts of brilliance, nor do I have any incredible insights. But, it seems to me that this current situation is caused by our efforts to nudge the economic system this way and that instead of letting things run their natural course.

For years, I remember hearing comments by Alan Greenspan and others about the need to lower rates or raise rates or whatever move they saw as being necessary, in order to control inflation, boost the dollar, etc... And the government, with congress constantly writing new laws, amending old laws, earmarking anything and everything the lobbyists wished for, shamelessly asserting it's desires upon us. I wonder that if these financial leaders and our government hadn't monkey-ed around with things so much then maybe we wouldn't be in so deep as we are now.

Of course I have other theories too. Maybe I'll save those for another rainy day.

A few things to consider before joining Smaller Indiana:

1. We want to know your real name...Please use your real name (first and last) when registrering, or we cannot open your account

2. We want to know the real you...Please do NOT use your Smaller Indiana blog for blatant self promotion

3. We want to see your smiling face...Please do not use logos or commercial images for your profile photo
