Here's what I'm proposing (for those of us who want to be or are on
Twitter. How about, for the rest of the month -- ChristmaChannuKwanzaTweetmas -- which encompasses many great holidays (and, for adherants, holy days), we consider this season of giving...and
tweet about others.
Let me break this down further. I don't want this to be hard. But for those of us who are trying to game the Twitter system, we're looking--in 150 characters at a pop--to tell
our story, to say why visiting our website or using our product or watching our video or listening to our podcast matters. I'm sure they do, because I can't imagine a better bunch of peers that what can be found in the twitterverse. But what if, for the remainder of the month, we tweet about someone else--some person, business or cool item--that's made a difference for us or for someone we care about.
Something like:
#Tweetmas: Getting ready to head over to Tea's Me. Wonderful tea, modern digs, classic jazz AND wifi. Heaven at www.teasmecafe.com
or
@SAikin just buzzed me about her client's new product, the notetote-great for us conpulsive paper twitterers-http://www.carrieandtuck.com/. Happy #Tweetmas!
Am I saying we should use
all of our tweets to uplift people? Nope. Didn't hear that from me. But I'm trying to imagine what my Twitter world would look like if I did that. Wonder if I can be that generous. Not sure if that's important.
However, I am inviting you to play with me until January 1, 2009. Just use the hashtag #ChristmaChannuKwanzaTweetmas (just kidding, ya'll) or, better yet,
#Tweetmas in your tweets if you're warbling about someone or something other than yourself.
In short, instead of answering "what are you doing" in 140 characters, try the question "who's amazing and what's cool."
For no other reason than they're amazing or it's cool and we want people to know about it so that they continue to grow.
Let's have at it. And be sure to post comments back here about what you're learning about yourself (good stuff as well as insights about potential generosity gaps) and let's see what emerges.
Best,
@LLAmos
