1. In 1977, the sun, the moon, the stars and my parents' pocketbook aligned and I was on my way to spend a year in Israel. They gladly paid for my plane ticket (were they trying to get rid of me? hmmmm....) I spent a year in a program sponsored by the Israeli government which was based on Peace Corps. As I was preparing to matriculate from grad school #1 (see below), I mentioned to an instructor that I was applying to the Peace Corps to go to Madagascar (this was before the cartoon). He suggested the program and off I went. I spent 3 months in a dorm learning the language (I could already read Hebrew) and then the remainder of the program working in a small town putting together a data base of services (hospitals, doctors, emergency services, social services, etc.)
2. It was in Israel that I met my wife, Lorraine. How else would a Texan and a New Yorker meet up? (This is that stars and moon aligning thing).
3. I have a bachelors in Anthropology, Masters in Community Planning, and a Masters in Finance but not a degree in Art as some people might think. I have thought about going back to school but I probably won't do a 4th degree. 3's enough. But I might take classes. Never ever stop learning.
4. I am not a computer techie but I have been programming and working with them since before many (most?) members of Smaller Indiana were born. My 1st experience was programming an IBM 360 Mainframe using FORTRAN II. That was in, gulp, 1967!
5. My favorite music is the blues.
6. While I was in college in the 70's, I was misguided about the Viet Nam War. Well, not the war - that was FUBAR. It was the way we treated the soldiers who served over there. Most were drafted and had no choice. I regret the way we treated them back then.
7. Regarding #'s 1 & 2, it was my live in Argentinian girlfriend who told me that Lorraine liked me. After 30 plus years, I'm kind of glad she mentioned it.
