The dreariness of winter is over and spring colors are popping up everywhere. The grass never seems greener than it does in the spring with all the rain showers and cooler temperatures. It’s a great time to get outside and perk up your yard with some splashes of color. It’s not too late to add spring hues to your landscape.
Here are a few ideas for brightening your yard:
Shrubs
Rhododendron, azalea, magnolia and lilacs can usually fit into any landscape and can be pruned to your desired size. Shrubs with variegated foliage that bring brightness to the garden like variegated boxwood and shrubby dogwoods such as Hedgerows Gold are wonderful additions.
Flowers
The Daybreak Red Stripe, Trailing Gazania, Clumping Gazania, and Treasure Flower all offer gorgeous colors that seem almost too beautiful to be real. They come in array of different shapes and colors, some a bright, pure yellow and others laced with multi-colored patterns. Marigolds provide an overwhelming bunch of color that will grow in clusters. Marigolds most frequently boast a brilliant yellow or orange shade and are known for their strong, yet enjoyable, scent.
Grasses
Ornamental grass can add amazing color and movement to your yard. Some ornamental grasses have flowers and others have colorful leaves or tassels that wave in the breeze. You can choose from grass that is steel blue, silver, white, yellow, orange, bright red or chartreuse in color.
Make your yard your own and stand out from the rest with bright flowers and colorful accents. The ideas are limitless!
