Is it just me or did McCain sound racist in his concession speech? It sure seemed to me that he over focused on Obama's race. What the h%^* does a candidate's race have to do with anything?

I thought it was a good speech, I did not think it was racial at all. It is a big deal that a black man is in the most powerful office in the world. It is something to be proud of, and when a woman holds office we will be proud that a Woman is in the Office. While I completely disagreed with most things coming from McCain, I was impressed by his speech.

I thought it was a pretty good speech... inspiring even.

I didn't think it was racial in a negative sense, but he did clearly point out the impact of the moment and the impact of a first black president.

I'm not going to make a mountain out of a molehill here, but I would like to share an observation:

1. When McCain mentioned Obama's name, the crowd booed - twice.

2. When Obama mentioned McCain's name, people clapped, not cheered, but clapped nonetheless.

No, I'm not trying to get the Repubs going here. It's merely an observation. Your thoughts? Is this a case of sour grapes? Indicative of character?

Interestingly enough, CNN is discussing what I wrote above at this very moment.

I thought the speech was great. I am very proud for the African American race that we have the first Black President in history. It says so, so much about the way that I hope our Country can change. (though, I still think there is a LOT of racism out there. There isn't a week that goes by that I don't hear some form of racial slur in everyday conversation)

He also talked about Obama's grandmother and his own mother. WHAT AN AGEIST!
Erik Deckers Comment by Erik Deckers on November 5, 2008 at 8:40am
I didn't think he was racist, I thought he grasped the historical significance of Obama's victory. We're not calling any of the pundits racist just because they bring up Obama's race, are we?

I think regardless of everyone's political choice, we should all be proud that we were able to elect a black man president less than 50 years after Jim Crow laws were repealed.

And for anyone who is ashamed or angry about that, then I don't even want to know you.

I actually thought it was the best speech he made in his campaign. Maybe if he would have shown the American people that "John McCain", the race would have be a little closer. Mitch Daniels proved that you don't have to run a negative campaign to win. And yes, I voted for Obama and Daniels!

This is a new day. The United States of America just showed the World that we truly are a Country built on Democracy! I am so proud to be an American.
