yes, I am very lucky. Sat next to a master woodworker at dinner last week and he said he lived in the old McCracken Homestead near toronto ... half the people in the telephone directory there are McCracken! A second McCracken Landing is in Canada.. I had only heard about the one on the mississipi. He completely remade the home from local lumber,,,, bought it from Ontario for $1! I am jealous!
obviously you are KEvin. I have friends who say ayann for Ann and clayer for Claire so it might be hoosier. I am descended from the brother of Henry Jpy McCracken. He went from Scotland to Ireland to fight around the time of Bonnie prince Charlie. he was hanged for treason! My grandfather grew up on a farm in Northern Ireland. He was taken with his brother to Louis Pasteur when a mad dog bit him and his brother... his father must have been well read and up to date to even know about this. I believe his brother came to the USA but we have no further information on that side. there is of course a place called "McCracken Landing " on the mississippi I think and the town of Paduccah(?sp) is in McCracken county. My father visited both with his brother 30 years ago or so. I have been meaning to go for ages but not done it yet. They said there were signs on buses saying " Keep McCracken Clean" ! etc. I only know of on pronunciation for McCracken (muckracken). Sara is a welsh name... my father Dermot was born in wales. It is not pronounced sarah( Serah) although many Americans have tried to tell me I am mispronouncing my own name!. It is" Saaruh" . Interestingly, most jewish and Indian people get it right!
