Making people and ideas findable

My new favorite book is The Shack by Paul Young. If you haven't read it I would highly recommend you pick it up. There's a part in the story where the main character, Mack, gets a glimpse of Heaven for just a short moment. Each person in Heaven is represented by a bright light and off in the distance one of the bright lights just can't stand still and is making quite a scene. That light is Mack's estranged father who couldn't contain his overwhelming desire to go running to his son and be reconciled to him. What a picture of grace and love!

It's been almost a month since I first blogged about reconnecting with my dad, and this past month has been more than amazing...it's been surreal! Dad and I set a date to meet halfway between Fishers and St. Louis so we could see each other and he could meet Emily and the kids. About one week after we settled on the date Dad called me. He had already researched a hotel with a nice pool so Jackson and Riley could swim while we talked and caught up with each other. A couple days later he called back to let me know that all the hotels within 50 miles of that town were booked for two weekends in a row due to some special events in the area. I was not expecting what he told me next. He had researched hotels in Fishers and found a Hampton Inn at I-69 and 116th street. I was absolutely blown away that he had taken the initiative to do all this research let alone the fact that he was entertaining the idea of coming all the way to Fishers to see me. I mean, this is the man who "left us" and "didn't care for us."

Even though we have the date set to meet face-to-face, neither of us have been able to wait. We have talked on the phone several times and have exchanged many emails. Emily and the kids have even talked with him on the phone and are REALLY excited for the visit. Every conversation has been so wonderful and has exceeded all expectations. Each call and email is signed with, "I love you!"

IS THIS REALLY HAPPENING?!

So....on September 19-20 my dad is coming to Fishers to see me and meet Emily and the kids for the first time.

Thanks to so many of you for your prayers and words of encouragement during this journey.

Scott

Scott-I haven't yet read The Shack, but pplan to based upon your post and a freind whop has been blogging about it as well. My father and I never had a close relationship and just as he and I (and my brother) reconnected, he began a lengthy battle with throat cancer. He eventually lost that battle, but the time the three of us were able to share and reconnect was priceless. It was a true blessing that allowed us to mend wounds, make amends and know one another. I am overjoyed to learn that you and your father have reconnected under less troubling circumstances. Make the most of that time you have!

Scott - what a wonderul blessing! I have marked my calendar to pray for you on Sept. 19th.
I am sure you are going to share many tears and laughs with your Dad. I am going to purchase The Shack this week-end! Good Luck!

Scott - I'm so glad to hear you about the progress being made in your relationship with your dad. Praise God!!! As Shawn said, there will probably be lots of laughs but also lots of tears. Just be yourself and allow God's Spirit to flow through you. Your dad is ready for healing, and so are you. Let it happen, even if it hurts!

The book, The Shack, (written by William Young, not Paul) is one of the most powerful books I have ever read, although several "theologians" dispute it. But then again, the Pharisees also disputed and argued over Christ's messages as well. I'm happy for you!
