Making people and ideas findable

I wonder how many of you are ready for Spring? I added this photo of Hepatica because it is an extremely early native plant that I love and thought maybe some of you might have favorites or questions about plants. This one, also called Liverwort blooms in Lavender/Blue and needs shade.

Peace, Paula

I am ready for gardening although I've been enjoying the winter's respite. I have a new house so all is from scratch. The drought and heat last summer made start up very difficult. And last week, I found that bunnies had devoured both my hollies and all six euonymus schrubs that survived so beautifully this summer (when so many other new perennials failed)
Do you know, do shrubs like these survive being stripped by bunnies?

My guess is anything with thorns. But if you are a humanitarian, I'd suggest fencing until the plants get big enough to survive the feast. Everything I've read suggests planting enough that they can eat some but not all. Perhaps they will look in the mirror (puddle?) like the rest of us and say - "Egads, I've gotta stop munching!" Good Luck!

I do feel sorry for the bunnies. What do they eat in the winter? I mean they don't hide things like squirrels do.
Right now, I'm just wondering if the 8 shrubs will survive. I mean, will they leaf again or are they history?
Eventually, I'll have more to share but for now, everything is new and low to the ground (perfect bunny height). I think chicken wire next winter............while not exactly the 'winter interest' I was shooting for........will save me time, money, and tears.
Good grief it's a lot of work landscaping a naked yard!
p.s. Aren't bunnies happiest when they're fat?p.p.s. holly is very sticky. It could NOT have been a pleasant meal! It took them all winter to get around to it so, they must have been desperate!

I use Milorganite, an organic fertilizer that does not burn leaves, but that keeps bunnies and deer from chomping. I tend to run a line (1 ") around the plant and then I throw it around the ground to keep them from getting a sneaky edge into the bed. Have also used spray fencing, think it is called Deer Fencing but it gets rid of most herbivors. AND IT STINKS so do wear gloves and don't get it on ou or your shoes.
The plants will probably come back as long as the cambium layer (interior branch) isn't disturbed...but that doesn't mean it will look good.

An a couple of simple remedies...dried blood and any kind of omnivore urine. However, dried blood may attrack dogs, raccoons and fox.

I dust my garden with lime. It's good for the soil when the rain washes it off and it's acidic quality discourages animals (and insects) from eating the plants.
