Smaller Indiana

Making people and ideas findable

I thought it might be good to start with figuring out where we served in the military and how we serve our business community here in Indiana.

I served in the US Navy from 86 to 92 and am a Veteran of the Gulf War (both Desert Storm and Desert Shield). You can find me over at NavyVets when it comes to my veteran life. I am the Director of Technology for a young startup, Patronpath, here in town and a local blogger.

Awesome, Chris! I think vets are pretty quiet about the service they did. Seeing you guys here in Smaller Indiana is inspiring to me as a Vet.

I served as a Supply Officer in the Navy from 93-98. I spent the last ten years building a Financial Planning Practice out in California. I sold that and moved out here to Indiana looking for a better quality of life. I'm looking for work in the sales and/or business development world. If you know anyone I might connect with, I'd love to chat.

Shawn,

This is the place to be - I think the Indianapolis Book Club that Pat runs is great as well. The network often passes on job openings, opportunities, and trades resources. Hope to see you on NavyVets.com as well.

I used to be a Chinook helicopter pilot, platoon leader and battalion staff officer in the Army. I served from 1992 to 1999. Got out as a Captain. Stationed at Fort Rucker, AL; Camp Humphreys, South Korea; and Fort Campbell, KY (twice). Was in the Indiana NG briefly (about 6 months 99-2000), but got out because I wanted to fly and they had other ideas for me. Glad I got out when I did : )

I was a 2X6er in the US Navy. I served 2 years, 3 months, 24 days, 6 hours, 5 minutes, and 32 seconds onboard the USS Harry E. Yarnell CG-17 from 1974 to 1976. I was a communications electronic technician responsible for repairing and maintaining UHF transceivers. The next three years I was in the Reserves driling once a month and two weeks active duty for training per year. I am a Senior Training Associate at Eli Lilly and Company.

Spent four years in the World's Finest US Marine Corps. After bootcamp and the school of infantry in San Diego, I spent the rest of my enlistment at Marine Corps Base Quantico, in Virginia.

Jim,

Wow! That's fantastic! I spent a lot of time with you guys - I was stationed on board a LST so we always were deployed with troops. It's great to see another Hoosier Vet with such drive and enthusiasm!

I was an aviation anti sub warfare tech stationed on the USS Nimitz (CVN 68) in the mid 80's.

I served in the United States Marine Corps from 99 to 03. I was a computer programmer believe it or not.

I was stationed at Camp Lejeune, NC primarily, but got to go play in the sand for the never ending war. I was there just before it started in Feb 2003 and left after "major combat" ended in June 2003. Luckily the Marine Corps deleted my MOS (passed it over to civilians) so they really didn't worry about keeping me in.

Anyone ever try to program with a gas mask and full MOPP level 4 gear on? It's not too fun.

I am currently the IT Director at Batteries.com here in Indianapolis. I also build awesome sites on the side like SnapFoo.com :)
