Making people and ideas findable

Michael Chabon, my new favorite writer, uses DevonThink Pro and Nisus Writer Express and credited both of them in his notes for "The Yiddish Policeman's Union." Has anyone used either of them? I soooooo hate Microsoft apps (they try to be user friendly and are really just bullheaded and cumbersome) and I'm thinking of replacing Word with Nisus Writer Express and using DevonThink Pro to keep my life straight.

Frankly I had not heard of either app. Now I'm intrigued. I need a program that can take all the stuff I get and help me organize it. Not sure if this is the app. If I could get it to open Parallels and access the MS stuff I have to use at the office as well...I'd be in heaven.

Why not just get OpenOffice? http://www.openoffice.org/ Free and fully compatible with other MS products if you need them.

In my grant, I specified Dramatica Pro for my creative writing software. I'm trying to decide whether I made a mistake in specifying any writing software, but it's on the grant, so I better get it. Has anyone used this one? Is there a better one?

what are the criteria/features you're looking for in the writing software?

I don't know. I looked up the specs of several different ones, liked what Dramatica Pro did, but don't have it yet to know if it's something I'll want, or wish it did/didn't do certain things.
