What's your language (AKA "Do you understand the words that are coming out of my mouth?")

This is not a discussion of political standings or one to start a firery debate, but something on a more simplier scale...

What language do you use to develop web sites? ASP, CFML, PHP, etc...

Me, I'm a CFML (Cold Fusion) programmer - have been from the very beginning (of my job and the language). I find that it's easy to learn/teach - and has some power in its ability to do what I need it to do. And honestly that's the #1 priority - "Do What I Tell You To Do". Past that, all the bells and whistles are cool for any language you use - but how long will you use it if you can't get it to function as needed.

So where do you weigh in?

Thanks, Bill

PSS - Cloverfield is cool and has completely messed with my head!

Very good - I like to hear when a developer is honest and admits that his/her language of choice is great, but there are some places where it could be better. But fear not, just pull our your handy-dandy Swiss Army toolkit, find something else, diversify, and keep right on truckin'.

Score: 8.48 for content and a bonus +0.5 for quoting the best geek movie of all time. :)

I'm a .NET developer. I've been using M$ technology for 10 years, and it does what I need it to. I started with ASP and then went to VB6 --> VB.NET --> C#.

ASP.NET and C# are probably my favorite environments. I do believe in CSS and standards, however, and avoid the bad practices by many-a-Microsoft programmers.

I like the Subsonic framework for the backend stuff, and use jQuery for the front end. jQuery's simplicity has made me blissfully ignore Microsoft's AJAX library.

Historically, I come from a native code background, with ancient roots in FORTRAN and the last decade being Mathematica, C/C++, and a smattering of Java.

I'm now making the transition to PHP5/Agavi Framework, XSLT, and JavaScript. It hasn't been too much of a culture shock, but it was admittedly a bit unnerving to let go of variable declarations.

If I have to say what movie that one's from, I'm in the wrong forum (but it's Monty Python and the Holy Grail, just in case)

I've messed around with a lot of environments including perl, ASP.NET, JSP/Servlets/J2EE, and Python, but when I need to get something done quickly server-side, I tend to go back to the faithful LAMP stack. PHP has been pretty faithful to me over the years, and you can't beat the price.

I find myself doing more AJAX now, primarily with JQuery. It's pretty darn cool.

I'm heavy into PHP, and it's the mother tongue for me as far as programming and scripting goes. I prefer interface design though, more front end work. I love Actionscript 3 and I'm stoked about the release of the Flash Player 10 player. Javascript is nice, but because I've been in AS so long, Javascript feels... so... sloppy. AS 2 and 1 people will think that sounds absurd, but for gods sake, can't I get a cross platform way of attaching events universally without having to do a browser check?!? It's 2008 for crying out loud! Also, CSS is fun fun fun to play around with.

Thats why we have Prototype and JQuery. Cross-platform-ed-ness.
