Where can a guy find a dress in Indy?

This is a LAST DITCH effort to help my wife find a dress for a black tie wedding. She's been to Macy's, David's Bridal and various other stores at Castleton Square and come up empty. Maybe it's because it's wedding season, maybe it's because she's tall, but there seems to be very little in stock. Anyway, it's getting to crunch time, and SI has come through on stranger requests, so...any recommendations? Just looking for a simple, smart dress that doesn't look like it belongs on a bridesmaid.

Also, I would check other smaller boutiques that aren't in malls.

And they have very cool, very unusual dresses and formal wear.

My friend got her "un-mother of the bride dress" there ( definition: Un-mother of the bride - when you look to young to have kids marrying, can still wear dresses with waistlines, and don't want three layers of chiffon)

Saks tends to be very overpriced, and not a great assortment, so it is rarely worth the visit.

One other thought. I have never been in, but just meet a salesman from the king's image:http://www.merchantcircle.com/business/The.Kings.Image.317-842-0579 . Known more for custom suits, they also have some very interesting formal wear, that won't look like last seasons prom dress. If you go in, ask for Ross, so he knows i was paying attention when he was talking.

And finally, road trip to Chicago.. I know this is almost heresy to say on SI, but the national
chains: Macy's, Nordstrums, don't give us the same assortment. And we don't have enough local boutiques.

Maybe our tastes as a community are more conservative, or maybe they were, 20 years ago, and no one has thought of offering us anything new lately.; ▶ Reply to This

Its true there are a lot of bridal dresses but they do have a lot of formal wear and if you have already been to David's it would be worth a look. Especially if you are going to Cache which is in the same mall. Secret Ingredient might have suggestions if they have nothing else.

While you were at Keystone at the Crossing, did you check out the Max Azaria/BCBG store? They often have lots of formal wear.

Another option is to check out the Nordstrom on line. The stores here seem to have limited selection. You can buy the dress on line and if it doesn't work out, it's easy to return to the store here in town. If it doesn't fit just right, they're excellent at alterations as well.

You may have joked about after market formal wear but you may want to check out Carmel Consignment they do carry formal wear and I think it's perfect for this kind of item that you may only wear once....; ▶ Reply to This
