Making people and ideas findable

I am a new member to Toastmasters International. I joined the Free Speakers group that meets every Tuesday at the Indy Star from 12:00 - 1:15. How many other members of TMI do we have here, how long have you been a member and where does your group meet?

Hi Stephen, I'm not a member yet but I am considering getting my highschool children involved. Someone told me of a group meeting in Fountain Square for homechool families (my children are homeschooled).

Stephen,

I know of at least a few other Toastmasters on SI - I imagine enough to start a group on here.

As for me, I am a district officer for Toastmasters currently serving as an Area Governor for a several clubs on the north side of town. I have been with Toastmasters for 3.5 years and recently served as President of the Lilly Technology Center Toastmasters club. I am an active member of the Nora Toastmasters club which meets every Monday at 7 pm at the St. Luke's church on 86th near Meridian. There is also a St. Luke's Singles club which meets on Tuesday nights (7 pm) at the church. Guests are always welcome and anyone who wishes to improve their speaking and/or leadership skills can join a club.

Here are some websites should anyone wish to explore a club where they live/work.

I used to be in Toastmasters a few years ago when I lived in northern Indiana. I've thought about getting back into it, but I'm way to busy to take on anything else. But I can't recommend it enough to anyone who is thinking about speaking in public at all.

I am a silver ATM should go back and complete.

Good afternoon Stephen,

I am not a member, yet I attend meetings with the Business and Community Toastmasters Club 1216. This Toastmasters International group meets every Thursday at Noon in the United Way Building on Meridian. This TMI group is seeking new members

I was a member for 5 years and have too thought of returning. I call it "AA for public speaking" because there's a meeting every morning, noon or night somewhere in the city. I often recommend it when I speak to groups of college students or young professionals even if they don't have to speak in public. The practice of skillful impromptu speaking is needed everywhere - business and home.

I've been a member in Ft. Wayne for 14 years although I don't make many meetings now. Been a Div. Gov, Area Gov. and club president.

I have spoken 3 times at the District 11 Conferences and have many TM friends in the Indy and tri-state area area. Toastmasters is a great group to learn speaking and then you can progress on to the National Speakers Association if you are interested in getting paid to speak.

i'm interested in toastmasters..i was actually just looking last week at the main web site and only found group meeting on northside (i live and work downtown)...regards, david

Dave,

Try Golden Gavel Club. Our next meeting is Tuesday, September 16. Because of the "Homeland Security", all visitors must now enter the building from the south entrance on Washington Street, then you turn right and go almost all the way to the end of the hall and DWD is on the right. (It sounds more complicated than it is.) I work at IUPUI and walk over. We have members who come from the City County building too. If you work downtown, I'd suggest walking to the meeting because parking is not easy at the government center.

I'm a member of Golden Gavel Toastmasters. It meets every other Tuesday, from Noon to One, at the Department of Workforce Development in the Indiana Government Center. You don't have to be a government worker to join this group. I have been a member since about 2000. I joined to improve my presentation skills, and I found a fun group of supportive friends who have helped me grow in my speaking and listening. I've even won a few speech contests!

I was in Toastmasters a few years ago while living Lexington, KY. I became an ATM. It was a great group!! I audited a meeting in Greenfield, then life happened. It's a great organization. I'm naturally shy and it helped me to face my fears, get my butterflies flying in formation and speak in front of people. Let it take you as far as you can.

I am not a Toastmaster, but would like to tell you about a friend of mine.

A great Toastmaster, Paul Castiglione, recently passed away at the tender age of 87. Paul introduced me to Toastmasters when he was just a teenager of 84. He organized a group at Crestwood West where I was Activity Coordinator for the assisted living senior citizen residents at the time.

I helped Paul to coordinate a membership drive for the Crestwood group that netted two new members! Paul was also a member of the group the met an Grindstone Charlie's on Rockville Road.

Paul and I also went on to establish the Crestwood West Veteran's Club. We gave a beautiful Veteran's Memorial event on May 20, 2006. There was not a dry eye in the house! Paul was a member of The Blind Veteran's Association. He, along with our 20-member group showed their colors, Red, White and Blue!

Each veteran brought out their memorabilia for their respective war. WWI, WWII and the Korean Wars were represented by memorabilia such as uniforms, tags, insignia, letters, photos and the like. It took your breath away to see the proud representations we had.

Paul was truly a great American.

Paul loved Toastmasters and he has now gone to that great Toastmaster's podium in the sky!

I'll miss Paul.
