How did you hear about Smaller Indiana?
Co-worker
What is your greatest strength?
I've been told that I am a big picture, creative thinker who isn't afraid of being a resourceful "doer" as well. I think my greatest strength is in creating opportunities for my clients and my partners to work in tandem with other organizations. Results matter, but so does the path to them.
What are you working on?
Gracie Communications, my company, brings both an outsider’s perspective and an insider’s insights to public relations and communication. That combination often leads to discoveries and observations that might otherwise go unnoticed.

I have the pleasure of working for a variety of clients including causes, tourism, corporation, agencies and arts related organizations. I consult. I write. I organize. I prod. I pitch stories. As my daughter says, "I give other people their words."
How big is your business?
small company
What is your Job Title
Owner
What is your Company Website?

What is your alma mater?

Why join Smaller Indiana? What are you hoping to experience here ?
I would like to meet other small business owners and executives for networking, advice and mentoring.

Another excuse to eat local

If you prefer to eat at independent restaurants over chains and shop at farmers markets instead of chain groceries, you can claim to be part of an official movement starting on Aug. 31. Sunday is the start of "Going Local Week," a grassroots (natch) event celebrating local food production that runs through Sept. 6. The core activity for Going Local Week is to promote “the eating of Indiana locally grown and produced foods as the norm, not a novelty,” according to the event Web site. That means… Continue

Back Packs for Success (or Way to Go Marty!)

Congratulations to Marty Posch and all those involved with the Back Pack Attack for successfully raising 425,000 school supply items for needy school-agers. Marty tells me that filled 8,800 backpacks. Wow. And I grumble about having to buy the two boxes of kleenexes and the 8 glue sticks, etc. , etc. that I have to provide each year for my kids. But I can afford it, so I send the big WalMart bag with the kiddos each first day. Imagine how it would feel to be a seven-year-old and NOT be able to… Continue

Arts inspire. Information empowers.

For those that want more information on how the current city funding is used, the Arts Council of Indianapolis has posted a new page on its Web site. At the bottom of the Web page are brochures and links to examples of how the City’s investment in the arts is used to create a vibrant community or see how it contributes to public safety. Some interesting tidbits: The City's allocation is used only for the grants programs that support Marion… Continue

Does the public support public funding for the arts?

As you may have read in the IBJ, on Indiana Barrister, or on my former employer’s Web site, tellhetrick.com, the Indianapolis City County Council is considering cutting Indianapolis public arts funding down to zero in the next three years. For a world-class city such as Indianapolis, I find this unacceptable. While the $1.5 million currently a… Continue

The Blue Folder

In the age of social networking, we are more connected now than ever. We have more opportunity to learn about, know about and share with our friends and colleagues. We also have more chances to vent and complain about those things we don't like. Maybe I've read too many rants lately, but sometimes I think we have forgotten the importance of recognizing and thanking others for their contributions and good works. I am fortunate to have a mentor who taught me the importance of giving - and saving… Continue

No problem! I actually chair the backpack attack for the city, so this is a good way to help get the word out. Thanks for being a part of it!

Please Share Your Two-Wheeling Secrets with Me

I confess. The only motorcycle I've ever owned was an 80cc Yamaha back in 1970. I used to have to pull the head gasket about once a month, and it would stop (stop!) suddenly, at speed, in order to...
