Losing in the stock market costs this Hoosier more than just money

One of the amazing things I've run across in the research and promotion of "Crazyman's Economics" is that people who brag about how much money they've made in the markets don't care about those who lose money. They claim it's their fault they lost their money. They didn't do the proper research, they trusted the wrong people. Look at the report Wall Street put out earier this week. They said it was human nature that caused investors to be too gree… Continue

Wall Street issues report, concludes: "Oops! Our bad!

According to the New York Times, a group of Wall Street executives have released a report detailing what went wrong and steps they can do to prevent it from hapening again. OK, quit laughing. According to the article: http://www.nytimes.com/… "Wall Street failed to anticipate how wide-reaching problems with mortgage bonds would spread into seemingly distant corners of the financial markets, the report said. Awash in easy money, banks doled out credit without sufficiently charging for the risk… Continue

Congress Suspends Rules to Defeat Oil Speculation Bill

In another move that suprised absolutely no one, the House of "Representatives" today voted down H.R. 6604, the House version of the energy speculation bill, by a vote of 276-151. Wait, you ask, how do you lose a vote with more people voting 'yea' than 'no'? Those sneaky foxes brought the bill to the floor under "suspension of the rules," which changes the requirements to now force a bill to have a 2/3 vote to pass. Why use the suspension procedure for a bill that has 276 votes but not 290 (2/3… Continue

The "Crazyman's" explaination of the commodities market and why all Hoosiers are paying more for goods

We've been hearing about the role of the commodities market in the increased prices we are paying at the pump and in the stores. This is a topic covered in Crazyman's Economics, but also one T.E. Scott addresses in this video. Before we can address the problems of the market, we need to understand it. Continue

The Keystone Cops of Stock Market Regulation affects Hoosier investors

Gary Weiss, reporter and author of "Wall Street vs. America" in which I hope "Crazyman's Economics" will be a companion piece, reported Tuesday on his blog about the SEC proudly announcing the fraud charges against Scottrade. Until, he points out, you notice the details. Once you read the entire press release, Weiss points out that the SEC had used its' favorite weapon, as Weiss calls it, the "limp soba noodle:" As Weiss notes: "Any reader of Wall Street… Continue

Thanks for the note Stephen. I've kicked around reporting/writing, PR for 25 years. It is an interesting field, but (like anything) has its good and bad.

I don't know Julie personally but do know her name well and see her byline often.

Things are hairy at work this month as a transition to a new role, but let's keep in touch and do get together soon.

Hey Stephen... I attended USI during Pearl's years there and had the great pleasure of attending the national championship game in '95 in Louisville. Go Screaming Eagles!

Would be happy to chat PR -- it's my livelihood! One way to learn more about PR is through the local chapter of the Public Relations Society of America. We have a monthly luncheon, and though it's short notice, tomorrow's meeting may be right up your alley. Check out the details at http://www.hoosierprsa.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=121&Itemid=112. Registration has closed, but we usually have room for some walk-ins. And let me know if you'll be there.

Sounds like an interesting book! I'm eager to check out your Web site/blog.
