TEDTalks : Why we don’t understand as much as we think we do - Jonathan Drori (2007)

Starting with four basic questions (that you may be surprised to find you can't answer), Jonathan Drori looks at the gaps in our knowledge -- and specifically, what we don't about science that we might think we do.

“The world is too dangerous for anything but truth and too small for anything but love.” - William Sloan Coffin

It's interesting to consider the idea of a Smaller Indiana. As it stands, Indiana is the smallest state I've lived in; and yet, I am amazed by how big it really is. In Indiana I've found visionaries that dream bigger than any NYC adman could imagine. There are small business ventures that have so many zeros at the end of their 5 year forecasts it would make Sequoia Capital giddy. Indiana is doing big things.

I'm always looking to the future, always seeking the next cultural undertone to indulge myself in, and I have met some awesome people along the way. I remind myself daily that it's only about the people.

I'm certain that through this website I will meet really amazing people. I'd love to know what it is that sets you apart from others in order to better appreciate and embrace the uniqueness that is a Smaller Indiana. So, please, drop me a note and introduce yourself!

The state of education

Picasso once said this, he said that all children are born artists. The problem is to remain an artist as we grow up. I believe this passionately, that we don't grow into creativity, we grow out of it. Or rather we get educated out of it. So why is this? - Sir Ken Robinson

We all have a responsibility for what we leave our children. Sir Ken Robinson, PhD believes that the best thing we can do for our children is to embrace the role of creativity in the development process and n… Continue

Colin
went through your dad's DiSC profile. I have some thoughts and comments about it. Ask him to contact me if he wants my feed back. Also, ask him if it would be good for a dating service? We would like to put one on line with the radio stations, something unique.
Let me know how you are doing on the MBA program at the Flagship.

Colin, The inspiration for the name Smaller Indiana came from a book called "Nexus" which is about "small world networks. Apparently, if you map out the way cells link togher, or words in language, or computers on the Internet, or pages on the Web...you find tight clusters of highly connected things linked tightly together which are connecte d loosely by just a few long distance connections to other clusters. This pattern is called a "small world aristocratic network. " When I read that I realized I had seen such networks before. The men they call the 'city committe" who are given credit or brining the Pan Am Games and RCA Dome to Indy, and re-envigorating downtown...when asked how'd they do it, they said "the six of us were close friends, and when something needing doing, we know just the right person to bring in (long distance connection) to get the job done. I've seen people use my book club mailing list to find new employees, jobs and vendors from people they'd never met, but who were connected loosely through "small worlds." Read the Bible, especially John 17, and you'll see that God made us to be connected, and he gave us each special gifts which are most fully realized in community (in the body / the church). We are best in community. We are in trouble when we isolate (as money and power often drive us to do). We need to need eachother, but the world keeps telling us to be independent. Indiana is a humble state. The community is already strong, but we can harness technology to make it even stronger. We want to help the economy grow, and we're going to do it by make our social connections "smaller".
