The business of religion: are demographics driving church relocations?

My little corner of Southwest carmel is beginning to look like a mini-Jerusalem. Within the area of 106th Street to the South, Michigan Road to the west 116th St to the north and Towne(Township Line) to the east, there are three religious congregations building a sanctuary. These are actually joining three churches that already exist in this rectangular area.… Continue

Obama's 'Presidential Seal': arrogant, presumptuous, unnecessary

Obama has intrigued me since his entry into the presidential race. I admire how he's elevated the general debate and reinvigorated the voting public. His message resonates with so many on both sides and, if elected, may lik… Continue

ISO's "Ask Your Mama" put the weight of history on my shoulders

(photo by Mike Magan) I walked into the “Ask Your Mama” performance of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra last night feeling pretty full of myself. Here I am a white-bred Southern Indiana boy taking his 11 year-old daughter to a high-brow event. Dad’s of the world and civil r… Continue

The death of Tim Russert: so much for HIPPA and health care privacy

As a news and politics junkie and as a former reporter, I was shocked to hear Tim Russert died today. I grew up watching NBC nightly news with Brokaw and as my interest in politics grew, I never missed Meet the Press. Who didn't think it was cool that he broadcast the show from downtown Indianapolis a few weeks ago? In watching the tributes and coverage of his death, I think the coverage even on NBC is getting a little out of hand. While he is a very public figure, should his personal physician… Continue

NHL 2.0 is born

On the night everyone is talking about tornadoes and an Obama victory, I am witnessing the resurgence of the National Hockey League. Even though pro hockey is not the "hottest" ticket around here, the resurgence in popularity of the Indiana Ice and the NHL nationally is intriguing to me. After all, it was only four years ago that the 88th season of the National Hockey League was lost to a bitter labor dispute. THE PUCK WASN'T DROPPED ONCE! At least the IRL and CART kept racing. As a Detroit Red… Continue

mike, i think i found someone who can do this and already has a solution in place so it'll be an easy process for them - i'd hate to have you spend hours coding and doing all that stuff, but I really, REALLY appreciate you offering! You are too kind, sir!

hey mike! yep, i'd need to know how to upload and update. I guess i might need to switch to a different platform other than WP? I was hoping to just get a new template to plug in there that way, I'd still be familiar with all the backend stuff, but perhaps that is not possible. Hmmm...this might be more complicated that I anticipated...never fails! :-)

Mike,

I missed it!!!! I really wanted to go, but was unable to. I briefly read your reviews, and see that Ask Your Mama had to do with racial controversy.. I really wish that I could have made it because that is one of my interests after learning in the past couple years about the hardships that blacks have faced in America...

Glad you were able to attend!

Thanks, Mike. Blogging is great, huh? I can't believe you brain-washed your son from a Crosby fan to a Zetterberg fan. At my house, it seems I'm the one getting brainwashed! :)
